New Direction
It’s been a while since I’ve shared here, or have even wanted to blog. I’ve had a hard time forming my thoughts around the topic of health and fitness after learning some alarming facts about the kind of things I was promoting in the name of health. As we get closer to the end of this year and this decade, I am hyper aware of how much I have evolved as a person, a trainer and health coach. I am finally to a place where I am ready to share again, and I hope you’ll hear me out.I’ve been in the health and fitness industry this entire decade, doing what I was taught as a fitness professional. And earlier this year, I discovered that it’s time to CHANGE THE GAME!Even just a year ago I was pushing and promoting a 30 day program with promises to transform our health. It’s a program I used to love myself and use for my clients because of the results that came with it. What I didn’t know then was the damage programs like this cause...Creating rules around food, eliminating food groups, taking before and after pictures, (even in the name of health and/or body positivity) all keep us in a cycle of guilt and shame, promote disordered thoughts and eating, and praise certain body types over others. When we try a diet, a program or food plan and don’t get the results we think we’re supposed to get, we think it must be us. We just aren’t good enough. But in truth it’s these programs that are failing us!When we commit to a program and do get the results we’re looking for, we get a temporary high. But more often than not, when we return to our regular way of eating those results quickly go away - triggering that shame spiral all over again. It’s proven that diets cause more harm than good, so why are we still promoting/trying them? It’s proven that body size is not indicative of one’s health, so why are we still promoting a smaller body as the holy grail?Diet culture wants you to believe that once you’ve lost weight your life will magically get better, and that is just a lie. Why are we all not just falling for this lie, but PROMOTING it?Here’s the thing - I don’t have all the answers, but I do have such a heart and passion for people in this cycle, and I want to be a place that offers help instead of more harming diet culture bs.Things that never change - lots of water, fruits and vegetables, and movement are super good for us. And I’m gonna stick with this tried and true “plan” from now on.I am excited to start using this platform again to share my thoughts and the knowledge I gain around the topic of health, and some yummy recipes too, with all of you!
